A long-term Townsville local, Steve has worked in Queensland real estate since the early 2000s, many of those years as a partner in a large, established regional agency. From the inside, he watched the needs of owners and tenants change, and watched much of the industry fail to change with them. Property management was too often the poor cousin to sales.

In July 2015 he established Smart Rentals: a business built entirely around property management, with no sales division competing for attention and a culture of customer service and communication at its core. As Principal and Licensee, he is responsible for the agency's licence, its trust accounts and its compliance with Queensland property law.

Today he leads the business's growth and designs many of our systems and automations himself, always with one test in mind: does it make life easier and more transparent for our owners, our tenants and our team?

Steve believes the relationship between property managers, owners and tenants should be collaborative, never adversarial, and he welcomes every idea on how Smart Rentals, and the industry, can do better. When he steps away from the business, you'll find him travelling with his wife, Leann, chasing fresh snow on a ski trip with friends, or around the table at Sunday family dinner.

As Chief Operating Officer, Leann runs the engine room of Smart Rentals: operations, governance, systems and the development of our high-performing team. The policies, procedures, training and quality checks that give every owner the same high standard of service, at every property and across both offices, sit under her leadership. It is why the Smart Rentals experience is consistent, whoever you deal with.

Leann brings more than 15 years of executive leadership across financial services, risk, fraud and customer experience. She holds an MBA from James Cook University, is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and is a Certified Chief Risk Officer with the Risk Management Institute of Australasia. As a long-standing Director of the Cowboys Leagues Club and a member of the Cowboys Group Compliance and Risk Committee, she brings the same rigour to Smart Rentals: clear accountability, sound governance and decisions made for the long term.

Leann also leads how Smart Rentals uses technology and AI to make our service faster and more consistent, so our systems amplify our team's care rather than replace it. Off duty, she and Steve are happiest exploring somewhere new with good food and wine, with their adult children keeping them both grounded and entertained.

Jean joined Smart Rentals in 2023 as Head of Property Management, bringing more than a decade in real estate, including senior roles with leading national brands known for excellence in process, innovation and client relations. She leads our property managers and assistants and is accountable for the service, systems and compliance behind every portfolio we manage.

Her approach is built on relationships and rigour. Jean has a career-long record of positive, constructive partnerships with owners, tenants and colleagues, and an unwavering commitment to lifting professional standards, for herself and for her team. A competitive athlete, she brings an athlete's mindset to the role: prepared, consistent and always working on the next improvement.

Few people know Smart Rentals as well as Irene. Since joining in 2021, she has built an in-depth knowledge of every system and process in the business. She now leads our administration and client support team and is our authority on training and quality assurance. Owners, tenants and property managers all rely on her across a wide range of property management tasks, from trust accounting support to tenancy administration.

Her calm, positive nature and proactive approach are a big part of why so much runs smoothly behind the scenes, and why the details are right before anyone thinks to check. Outside work, Irene loves to travel, and Christmas is her favourite time of year.

Libby joined Smart Rentals in 2025, bringing warmth, deep industry knowledge and a real passion for helping owners get the best out of their investment. A management career with a leading national retailer, focused on customer experience, taught her the value of trust, reliability and clear advice. With on-the-ground market insight, she offers practical, personalised guidance, whether an owner is investing for the first time or growing an established portfolio.

Libby takes the time to understand what each owner wants their property to achieve, then makes the transition simple, from a free rental appraisal to a seamless handover to the property manager who will care for it day to day. Outside work, Libby and her daughter are always going on adventures together.

Hannah joined Smart Rentals in December 2018 as a trainee and built her career from the ground up, gaining a deep understanding of the full property management lifecycle. She knows what a good tenancy looks like long after the lease is signed, and that knowledge shapes every leasing decision she makes.

She runs our leasing department from first enquiry to signed lease: pricing advice, marketing, viewings and tenant selection. Every application is read with a careful eye and a sharp instinct for people, always aiming for the right tenant with the shortest possible vacancy. Prospective tenants receive the same warm, responsive service, and many go on to become long-term Smart Rentals tenants.

Her patience and eye for detail don't switch off at five o'clock: Hannah is a keen knitter and a devoted animal lover.

Grace has worked in property management since 2019, starting in leasing after four years in retail customer service, and joined Smart Rentals in 2023. That combination of leasing know-how and service instinct has made her a senior member of our property management team, with deep expertise across the full tenancy lifecycle.

Grace sets the standard for quality and consistency and supports her colleagues to deliver it across every portfolio. Owners value her clear advice and her habit of acting on issues early, and tenants appreciate her friendly, responsive approach. Off the clock, Grace is happiest at home with her cats, Cinnamon and Pancake, or catching up with friends.

Doug joined Smart Rentals in 2026, bringing 24 years of property management experience. He knows that protecting an investment comes down to getting the details right, every time. Rent stays on track, arrears are acted on early, maintenance is managed promptly and inspection reports give owners a clear, honest picture of their property.

His owners hear from him before they need to ask, and his tenants know they will be treated fairly. Away from work, Doug is a competitive pinball player, a pursuit that rewards the same focus, precision and composure he brings to every portfolio.

Chiara joined Smart Rentals in 2025 as a leasing and property management assistant and has grown into a trusted Property Manager. She stays steady when things get busy, gets the facts straight and works through every matter fairly and by the book, from a routine lease renewal to a maintenance issue that needs quick action.

Owners receive clear, honest advice on their options, and tenants know they will be heard. Her focus is simple: issues resolved properly, homes well looked after and owners who always know how their investment is performing. Away from the office, Chiara is the friend with the plan, the playlist and the best story of the weekend, and she brings that same bright energy to the team every day.

Candace joined Smart Rentals in 2026, bringing more than two years of property management experience. Organised, responsive and unflappable under pressure, she is the property manager you want on the phone when a hot water system fails on a Friday afternoon. She keeps owners informed at every step and sets out clear options, so decisions are easy and costs stay under control.

Aly joined Smart Rentals in 2026, bringing more than four years of property management experience. She takes a thorough, well-rounded approach to every part of property management, from leasing and renewals to maintenance, inspections and day-to-day owner communication. She manages each property as a long-term investment, keeping owners informed and acting early so small issues never become big ones.

Compliance is where Aly truly shines. Smoke alarms, pool safety certificates, entry notices, lease documentation and Queensland tenancy law: she knows them inside out and keeps every requirement current, so owners are protected and nothing is left to chance. Her owners know their property is managed properly, and her tenants find her approachable, fair and quick to resolve any issue. Aly is always willing to help others, at work and beyond, and outside the office her life is all about her kids.

Maddie joined Smart Rentals in 2026 and works alongside our property managers to keep every portfolio moving, from maintenance requests and trade coordination to inspections and owner updates. She anticipates what is coming, so every request is answered, every job is followed through and every file is in order.

Easy to deal with and naturally caring, Maddie brings the Smart Rentals standard of care and communication to every conversation, whether she is speaking with an owner, a tenant or a tradesperson. Maddie has an infectious laugh, loves live music and is always up for a good time with friends.

Michael joined Smart Rentals in 2024 in leasing, guiding prospective tenants through viewings and applications, and now supports owners and tenants across the whole of the tenancy. Having seen the process from both sides, he understands what makes a tenancy work, and what keeps it working.

Warm, personable and precise, Michael pairs an approachable manner with a sharp eye for detail, creating a welcoming experience for every owner and tenant he works with. Outside work, you'll find Michael at the gym, perfecting a new cocktail or catching up with friends.

Patience joined Smart Rentals in 2026 through our structured traineeship and is completing her Certificate IV in Real Estate Practice. She helps match the right tenants with our owners' properties: managing enquiries, conducting viewings and guiding applicants through the process, making sure every application is carefully checked before a recommendation reaches the owner, and keeping things moving so properties spend as little time vacant as possible.

Friendly, switched on, practical and well organised, she gives every prospective tenant a great first impression of Smart Rentals. Super motivated in everything she does, Patience loves catching up with friends at all the coolest spots in town.

Claire joined Smart Rentals in 2026 after working in Townsville real estate since 2024, most recently as an Associate Agent, where she attended properties every day, identified maintenance and works needed before going to market, and followed jobs through with clients and trades. Before real estate she ran her own commercial cleaning business across many properties, so she knows what a well-kept home looks like and where the small details are missed.

She conducts routine inspections across our Townsville portfolio, assessing each property's condition, identifying maintenance needs early and documenting everything with detailed notes and photos, with reports finalised for our property managers the same day. Professional, respectful and thorough, Claire makes each inspection easy for tenants and informative for owners. Outside work, you'll find her at the gym or with friends on the weekend, and she loves a spotless, well-kept space, which may explain her eye for detail.

Lizzy joined Smart Rentals in 2021 and has been a valued member of our administration team for more than four years. If a system needs attention or there is a faster way to get something done, Lizzy is the one who finds it. She knows our property management software inside out, helps the team get the most from it and is our go-to for leasing enquiries, bringing real problem-solving skill to every request.

Lizzy is known for her flexibility, her reliability and a sense of humour that keeps the team smiling on the busiest days. At home, her little ones keep her busy and entertained as they learn to talk. Her break-time ritual: a green mango shake.

Jeric joined Smart Rentals in 2025, bringing a strong background in real estate support. He ensures a seamless experience for clients and colleagues alike, managing everything from leasing support to core administration with accuracy and care. He is the steady, dependable presence that keeps the work moving.

A keen traveller, Jeric is always planning his next destination, and he unwinds with strategy games, which may explain why he is always thinking a few moves ahead.

From morning greetings to lunchtime strolls, Aggie brings joy, calm and just the right amount of chaos to our workday. Her specialties include welcoming visitors and our trades with a wag and a woof, supervising snack breaks with keen attention to detail, napping in strategic locations and boosting team morale, one cuddle at a time.

When she's not patrolling the office or charming clients, Aggie enjoys playing in the mud, chasing flies and maintaining her status as the goodest girl in real estate. She takes her role so seriously, she even has her own business card. (Yes, really.) Her favourite treats are chicken and sardines, and she will happily supervise anyone who has either.
